Sammye's Dogs' employs humane, effective training solutions founded on the latest scientific evidence. Our protocols are designed by highly experienced Certified Professional Dog Trainers to set you and your dog up for success from the start.

We use a reward-based approach to teach skills and concepts often in game-style ways. We mark desirable behaviors using a "clicker" (sound maker) or our voice with a verbal marker word such as "YES!"

At the heart of our training is a partnership—we work one-on-one with you to achieve your dog’s training goals through clear, attainable steps. Whether you're enrolled in private lessons, Day Training, or a Board & Train program, your involvement is essential. We guide you through each stage by explaining techniques, demonstrating them, and coaching you hands-on. We also provide a personalized training plan with manageable homework assignments between sessions. How do we do it?​

1) Teaching and reinforcing desirable behaviors so they will be more likely to occur in the future. Breaking criteria down into achievable steps at the learner's pace leaving little opportunity for errors.
2) Preventing and interrupting undesirable behaviors WITHOUT the intentional use of physical or psychological intimidation or harm.
3) Taking the dog's physical and emotional wellbeing into account.
4) Continuing to educate ourselves as Certified Professional Trainers with the goal of employing humane, effective training based on the latest scientific evidence.

The way we train furthers progress through a more compassionate relationship between humans and animals and is void of that nasty stuff like fear, force, pain, or intimidation.

While dog training is a science, the industry remains unregulated, lacking licensing requirements or regulatory oversight. Much like other service-based professions, not all dog trainers are equal. Dog trainers can differ significantly in terms of their methods, philosophies, experience, and overall approach to training. Anybody can call themselves a "dog trainer." "behaviorist," or "behavioral trainer." However, we hold ourselves to the highest degree of ethics and commit to voluntary certification with CCPDT and adhere to current, science-based practices.

In short, our 35+ year combined expertise extends to all breeds and ages of dogs commonly described as high-energy, overly excited, easily distracted, impulsive, fearful, stressed, anxious, and reactive. We have trained hundreds of puppies, and upwards of 50 service dogs for individuals with disabilities.
